Following the success of the Tunnel Safety Simulator, KiwiRail required an application to support safety planning and worksite preparation along the Wairarapa line—a high-traffic route requiring precise, adaptive planning for level crossing works. As part of the Wellington Metro Upgrade Plan, the Level Crossing Construction Planner offers teams an advanced environment to visualise, plan, and assess worksite risks through rich interactive features and accurate 3D models.
We developed detailed 3D models using drone photogrammetry.
The Level Crossing Works Planner expands upon the technology developed for our Tunnel Safety Simulator, advancing KiwiRail’s ability to plan and manage rail upgrades along the Wairarapa line. Teams can visualise and simulate work scenarios in context-rich, realistic environments, with faithfully replicated terrain and site conditions. This tool enables KiwiRail to approach planning with a level of precision that greatly improves on traditional methods.
We enhanced worksite safety with advanced hazard management tools.
New features tailored to worksite layout and hazard management build upon the Tunnel Safety Simulator’s prop placement and measurement systems. Key additions include a spline tool for defining safe work zones with barriers and cones, a blockout tool to highlight hazard areas, and hazard zone indicators around construction vehicles to visually represent risk zones in 3D space. These tools offer KiwiRail planners the flexibility to lay out, test, and iterate on-site configurations, empowering teams to anticipate and mitigate risks with greater insight.
